SOH unleashes their creativity in 2014 open house

From 9th-11th January 2014, the School of Hospitality (SOH) had once again unleashed their bold creativity upon Republic Polytechnic’s open house! It was a high-voltage red-carpet event, well-lit by its billboard charm that caused everyone to think that they were in a theatre. Despite the glitz and glamour, the SOH student helpers were able to help secondary school students understand what life at SOH is all about.

SOH booths attracting the attention of many students

Not willing to be outdone, students who major in restaurant and culinary operations set up a booth right smack in the middle of the open house. Through live culinary sessions behind an “open-kitchen” concept, many are drawn to a sumptuous feast of gastronomy.

When interviewed about what he likes about the open house, Ethan Chua, 17 answered excitedly, “The live cooking sessions were so interesting! Now I know what goes on within a kitchen, I appreciate my mother more as she has been taking care of my meals. This concept is a really creative idea in showing us what this course is really about.”

With a ring that sings, our hospitality majors went all out to ensure their hospitality is felt tangibly throughout the entire open house. With a bellhop hooked on with clothes and luggage, it is a strong statement that was put across what the hospitality major offers. When asked about what she likes about this particular booth, Fionne Tan (18), a proud student of Republic Polytechnic, answered without hesitation, “I really like this year’s theme, like HollyWood Style!”

Doris Chan, a parent of a 16 year old, remarked, “I love how the booths, decorations and props were integrated effectively to give my child the genuine Republic Polytechnic experience, we love the setup here!”
